MEDIA TECHNOLOGIES<br />

The Engineering and Media Technologies Department houses several related<br />

Career/Technical programs in the field of media. Communications Graphics<br />

Technology, General Technology—Photography, Video Production Technology<br />

and Web Technology all provide hands-on training using industry-standard software<br />

and equipment. Because of the interdisciplinary nature of the programs and<br />

students’ specific career objectives, students may want to consult with an advisor<br />

before determining which career program is right for them. Media Technologies<br />

also offers optional certificate programs to broaden students’ experience in related<br />

media fields. See the Certificate <strong>Program</strong>s section of this Catalog and Handbook<br />

for more information.<br />

Communications Graphics Technology<br />

<strong>Program</strong> <strong>Description</strong>: The Communications Graphics Technology program<br />

educates students in the art of visual communications. The student receives<br />

hands-on training in visual fundamentals; problem-solving; and visual/verbal<br />

concept development for advertising, graphic design, and illustration.<br />

Emphasis is placed on the use of computer-enhanced technology and contemporary<br />

software applications throughout the program to support the development of<br />

professional portfolios.<br />

A fully equipped Macintosh lab is available for instruction and for use by students.<br />

Equipment includes Apple Power Macintosh computers with dual 17” color monitors,<br />

flatbed and film scanners, tabloid capable LaserWriter and color printers. Software<br />

applications in the design/illustration classes include Adobe Illustrator, A d o b e<br />

Photoshop, QuarkXPress, Cinema 4D XL, Macromedia Dreamweaver, Fireworks<br />

and Flash.<br />

Upon successful completion of the CGT curriculum, graduates will be prepared to:<br />

I . Successfully enter the job market in the fields of advertising design, graphic<br />

design, Web design, computer illustration and prepress production<br />

I I . Create original concepts and designs for visual communications, incorporating<br />

typography, photography and illustration<br />

Degree: Associate of Applied Science (A.A.S.)<br />
