MEDICAL INSURANCE CODING & REIMBURSEMENT<br />
(INSTITUTIONAL CERTIFICATE)<br />
The Medical Insurance Coding and Reimbursement certificate program prepares<br />
individuals for employment in the area of medical insurance and health<br />
care claim processing. Classroom instruction includes use of CPT-4- and ICD-9-<br />
CM as well as the processing of medical insurance claims and medical billing<br />
procedures. Students completing the program may wish to take the professional<br />
certification exam offered through the American Academy of Professional<br />
Coders (AAPC) or the American Health Information Management Association<br />
(AHIMA). Graduates may apply credits earned through the certificate program<br />
toward an associate’s degree in Office Systems Technology – Health Care Office<br />
Administration. Courses in each level (Foundation, Core, Advanced Tr a c k )<br />
must be completed prior to advancing to the next level. W h e re more than one<br />
course is off e red within a level, courses may be taken in any sequence.<br />

MEDICAL TRANSCRIPTION (INSTITUTIONAL CERTIFICATE)<br />
The Medical Transcription certificate program prepares individuals to understand the<br />
language of science and medicine and to prepare accurate documentation in health information<br />
professions. Career opportunities exist in medical record transcription. This certificate<br />
will be beneficial to premedicine and other scientific careers, pharmaceutical and<br />
s u rgical supply company representatives, insurance adjusters, court reporters and other<br />
professionals requiring knowledge of medical terminology.<br />
Some of the courses required for the certificate can also be applied toward the associa<br />
t e ’s degree, should the student so desire. Students receiving this certificate should be<br />
able, after meeting necessary entrance requirements, to pass the A A M T N a t i o n a l<br />
Certification Examinations and also qualify for membership in the American Health<br />
Information Management A s s o c i a t i o n .Courses in each level (Foundation, Core ,<br />
