advisor, and a list of charter members and officers. For a list of active organizations,<br />

come by Room 162 in the J.L. Goins Administration Building on the<br />

<strong>Pellissippi</strong> Campus. A faculty or staff member acts as advisor to each student<br />

organization. The advisor facilitates the overall functioning of each student organization<br />

and is expected to attend meetings, update members on <strong>Pellissippi</strong> <strong>State</strong><br />

policies, and assist members as needed in carrying out activities.<br />

Each officially recognized student organization is expected to keep a record of<br />

meetings, expenditures, and activities of the group and to submit an annual report<br />

to Student Life and Recreation as requested.<br />

Student Leadership Development. Student Life and Recreation offers a variety<br />

of programs designed to enhance and support the leadership development of<br />

<strong>Pellissippi</strong> <strong>State</strong> students. The Leadership <strong>Program</strong> has two main objectives: 1)<br />

to address the leadership development needs of the diverse student population at<br />

<strong>Pellissippi</strong> <strong>State</strong> and 2) to heighten collaboration between various departments at<br />

<strong>Pellissippi</strong> <strong>State</strong>, community leaders, and students.<br />

The components of the Leadership <strong>Program</strong> include the following:<br />

• Student workshops and training<br />

• Academic and Leadership Awards Ceremony<br />

• HUM 2100—leadership development class<br />

• EDU 1200—class for student leaders<br />

• “Breakfast of Champions”<br />

Application for Starting a New Organization. Any student or group of students<br />

interested in starting a new student organization should contact Student<br />

Life and Recreation to obtain a copy of the Procedures for Forming a New<br />

Student Organization.<br />

Application for a Special Event. Special events or fund-raising activities<br />

planned by student organizations require approval through Student Life and<br />

Recreation at least two weeks prior to the event.<br />

Assemblies and Meetings. Officially recognized student organizations may<br />

schedule campus facilities for regular meetings. Special assembly programs,<br />

fund-raising activities or off-campus activities must be approved through Student<br />

Life and Recreation. All use of campus property and facilities is subject to TBR<br />

regulations.<br />

R e c reation and Intramurals. Avariety of recreational and intramural activities<br />

for <strong>Pellissippi</strong> <strong>State</strong> students are available throughout the year. The Student<br />

Recreation Center (SRC) on the <strong>Pellissippi</strong> Campus has outdoor facilities that<br />

include a combination basketball/tennis court, a sand volleyball court, a soccer<br />

field, a golf area, an archery area and a softball field. Inside are located three tennis<br />

courts and a combination volleyball/basketball/badminton court. The SRC also<br />

has a fitness room containing a variety of weight training and cardio equipment.<br />

The SRC facilities are open to all <strong>Pellissippi</strong> <strong>State</strong> students, faculty and staff who<br />

have paid the student recreation fee, as well as to special guests of the <strong>College</strong>.<br />

Students must present a current validated ID card to use any of the facilities.
