INTERIOR DESIGN TECHNOLOGY<br />

<strong>Program</strong> <strong>Description</strong>: The Interior Design Technology program is designed to<br />

give students the combination of technical, marketing and communication skills<br />

that will qualify them for positions in interior design and related fields. T h i s<br />

education, plus four years of diversified interior design work experience and successful<br />

completion of the National Council for Interior Design Qualification examination,<br />

qualifies the graduate of this program for licensing as a professional interior designer.<br />

Degree: Associate of Applied Science (A.A.S.)<br />

Typical Job Opport u n i t i e s : The Interior Design Technology program provides a<br />

broad background that prepares the individual for employment in numerous fields of<br />

interior design. Typical entry-level positions include the following:<br />

Design A s s i s t a n t .In architectural and interior design off i c e s .<br />

Merchandiser or Representative of related industries such as furnishings, floor<br />

covering, fabric, fixtures and finishes; delineators; estimators; and residential<br />

and commercial building construction.<br />

After successfully completing the Interior Design Technology program, graduates are<br />

prepared for advanced work in a four- or five-year interior design program or for immediate<br />

employment. In preparation for advanced work, graduates will be equipped to do<br />

the following:<br />

I . Understand fundamentals of art and design, theories of design and human<br />

b e h a v i o r, and design-related history<br />

I I . Apply the knowledge, skills, processes and theories of interior design<br />

I I I . Communicate eff e c t i v e l y<br />

I V. Design within the context of building systems and use appropriate materials<br />

and products<br />

V. Apply the laws, codes, regulations, standards, and practices that protect the<br />

health, safety, and welfare of the public<br />

V I . Understand the business and professional practice of interior design<br />
