COMPUTER ACCOUNTING<br />
Accreditation: Accredited by the Association of Collegiate Business Schools<br />
and <strong>Program</strong>s.<br />
<strong>Program</strong> <strong>Description</strong>: The Computer Accounting program offers a core curriculum<br />
that provides the academic and technical background for individuals<br />
who wish to prepare for entry-level accounting positions in business and industry<br />
using both accounting and personal computer skills.<br />
The curriculum is designed to enable the graduate to apply principles of accounting to<br />
business situations and to understand other functions of business: marketing, management,<br />
finance and information processing.<br />
Degree: Associate of Applied Science (A.A.S.)<br />
Typical Job Opportunities:<br />
Accounts Payable Te c h n i c i a n .Reviews invoices and schedules payments according<br />
to the terms of invoices; reconciles subsidiary accounts to accounts payable and prepares<br />
information for financial statements.<br />
Accounts Receivable Te c h n i c i a n .Records payments received on account from customers<br />
and reconciles subsidiary accounts to accounts receivable; prepares information<br />
for financial statements.<br />
P a y roll Te c h n i c i a n .Calculates and records employees’ gross earnings, deductions<br />
and net earnings; calculates related business payroll taxes and fringe benefits; prepares<br />
information for reports required by law.<br />
Financial Institution Technician. Computes and records accounting and financial<br />
data for banks, credit unions and other financial institutions; provides operational<br />
support needed for financial services to customers.<br />
After successfully completing the Computer Accounting program, the graduate will<br />
be equipped to do the following:<br />
I . Understand the basic principles of financial accounting, managerial and cost<br />
accounting, and taxation and apply them to the accounting field<br />
I I . Integrate computer accounting with other areas in the business environment<br />
I I I . Identify problems and use appropriate techniques to find solutions<br />
I V. Work independently with a network of individuals and also function within<br />
a work team<br />
V. Demonstrate business skills including competencies in mathematics, written<br />
and oral communications and a variety of computer applications, including<br />
word processing, spreadsheets, accounting software and tax preparation<br />
software<br />
V I . Function competently as a citizen and consumer<br />
V I I . Develop knowledge/skills as needed in the computer accounting field<br />
V I I I .Qualify for entry-level positions in accounting<br />
