◆★ENGL2320 Honors World Literature II 3 Credits<br />

An enriched study of the literature of the Western world during Neoclassic, Romantic,<br />

Realistic and Modern periods. Students should have at least a 3.25 GPA and have the permission<br />

of the instructor and department head. Students who do not have a 3.25 GPA may be<br />

admitted with permission of the instructor. Spring Prerequisite(s): ENGL1020<br />

◆★ENGL2331 African-American Literature 3 Credits<br />

This course introduces students to literature written by major African-American writers. It<br />

examines the vernacular (voice), the conventional literary devices and the diverse writing<br />

strategies. It also covers the universal themes found in the literature of the following periods:<br />

1865-1919 (Narratives of Slavery and Literature of the Reconstruction to the New<br />

Renaissance) and 1919-1940 (the Harlem Renaissance). The course examines the writing of<br />

African-Americans found in the following genres: essays, short stories, drama and the novel.<br />

The course seeks to improve students’ abilities to read critically, to write analytically and to<br />

substantially increase their knowledge of African-American literary traditions and writers. On<br />

A study of poetry as a unique genre of literature with an emphasis on the critical tools for<br />

Critical tools for perceptive reading of play texts. Writing emphasis course. On Demand<br />

Writing of poetry and short fiction in combination with study of models and techniques.<br />

ENGL2660 Introduction to Playwriting 3 Credits<br />

Writing of plays in combination with study of models and techniques. On Demand<br />

Prerequisite(s): ENGL1010 or consent of instructor.<br />

ENGL2670 Introduction to Screenwriting 3 Credits<br />

Writing of screenplays in combination with study of models and techniques. On Demand<br />

★ENGL2950 Business & Technical Writing 3 Credits<br />

Instruction and practice in the forms and techniques of business and technical writing and<br />

editing on the computer, with an emphasis on basic writing skills when necessary. It is recommended<br />

ENVIRONMENTAL TECHNOLOGY AND SAFETY<br />

ENV 1500 Introduction to Hazardous Waste Disposal 3 Credits<br />

Identification of principal hazardous waste materials, types and processes for recovery,<br />

destruction and disposal of hazardous wastes. Sampling and analysis of waste materials. Toxic<br />

and other hazardous properties of wastes. Inventory control and discharge records for hazardous<br />

waste disposal waste minimization. Fall<br />

ENV 2000 Environmental Legislation 3 Credits<br />

The origins of environmental laws and regulations: current major environmental statutes,<br />

including the Clean Water Act; the Clean Air Act; the Comprehensive Environmental<br />

Response, Compensation and Liability Act (Superfund); hazardous materials/waste regulations;<br />

and potential liability created by each statute. On Demand<br />

ENV 2010 Hazardous Waste Safety 3 Credits<br />

This course is a study of job-related safety and hazardous waste legislation. Topics include<br />

safety philosophies and engineering factors involved in meeting the safety standards of OSHA,<br />

RCRA, SASAand CERCLA. This course covers all the materials for SARA/OSHA1910. 120<br />

certification. Spring and Fall<br />
