ENGL1050 Advanced Speaking—ESL 1 Credit<br />
A course for non-native speakers of English emphasizing vocabulary development in<br />
academic content areas, speaking and listening skills. Recommended to all ESL students<br />
entering college-level courses. On Demand<br />
ENGL1060 Basic Pronunciation—ESL 2 Credits<br />
A course to help international students improve their English speaking skills and master<br />
the patterns of English spelling. Students practice the production of English sound patterns<br />
and related spelling patterns. Highly recommended to all ESL students who do not<br />
have excellent pronunciation. Spring and Fall<br />
English Review for<br />
ENGL1221 Non-native Speakers 5 Credits<br />
Comprehensive review of English rhetorical structures. Extensive practice in reading,<br />
vocabulary and writing. A student may be admitted to this course by passing a comprehensive<br />
ESL placement test, which includes reading, writing, vocabulary and grammar. Spring and<br />
Fall Prerequisite(s): The student must achieve a score of 75 on the Michigan Test of English<br />
Language Proficiency and must complete an ESLwriting sample that demonstrates the ability<br />
to perform at the college level as an ESLwriter.<br />
Composition Practice for<br />
ENGL1330 Non-native Speakers 5 Credits<br />
Intensive practice in composition organization and development. A student may be admitted<br />
to this course by passing a comprehensive ESL placement test, which includes reading,<br />
writing, vocabulary and grammar. The course may be taken before or with ENGL1010. Spring<br />
and Fall Prerequisite(s): The student must achieve a score of 75 on the Michigan Test of<br />
English Language Proficiency and must complete an ESLwriting sample that demonstrates the<br />
ability to perform at the college level as an ESLwriter.<br />

literature through the Medieval period and Renaissance. Students should have at least a 3.25<br />
