MICROSOFT OFFICE USER SPECIALIST<br />
(MOUS) PREPARATION (INSTITUTIONAL CERTIFICATE)<br />
The MOUS program provides an industry-recognized standard for measuring an individual's<br />
mastery of Microsoft Office applications. By passing one or more MOUS program<br />
certification exams, users demonstrate proficiency in a given Microsoft Off i c e<br />
application to current and potential employers.<br />
The online certificates offered by <strong>Pellissippi</strong> <strong>State</strong> are designed to prepare students for<br />
these exams. The certificates can be grouped together as several 3-hour certificates or as<br />
one 17-hour certificate to meet the curriculum needs of the student.<br />
Basic computeruse knowledge is re q u i red, as well as high school graduate re a ding<br />
and writing skills. All courses except MGT 2000, MKT 2420, OST 1100, 2801,<br />
2802, and 2803 re q u i re the Computer Based Training (CBT) application. T h e<br />
remaining courses are Web-based courses. Certificates delivered overthe Web can<br />
be completed at home or work at any time. The student must have the following<br />
minimum hardware / s o f t w a re to complete the courses on the We b :<br />
H a r d w a r e : Pentium II processor or better, 200 MHz processing speed, 64 Mb<br />
RAM, 56K modem for dialup access (cable modem or DSL is highly desirable<br />
if available).<br />
Software: An Internet service provider paid for by the student, graphical browser (full<br />
version of Netscape 4.7+ or IE 5.0 required), Windows 95 or higher.<br />
E n t ry-level standards: Keyboard speed of 28 wpm or OST1100 or equivalent; basic<br />
knowledge of the personal computer and its operation. Courses in each level<br />
(Foundation, Core, Advanced Track) must be completed priorto advancing to<br />
the next level. W h e re more than one course is off e red within a level, courses<br />
may be taken in any sequence.<br />
