Internship. Usually a nonpaid position that offers experience related to the<br />

major. Some Career/Technical programs require an internship for graduation.<br />

Job Competency Guarantee. Any Career/Technical graduate judged by his or<br />

her employer as lacking in technical job skills expected of an entry-level<br />

employee may take additional courses, up to 15 semester hours, at no charge to<br />

the student or employer.<br />

Learning and Testing Center. Located in the Educational Resources Center<br />

(Library), the center provides free tutoring in a variety of subjects. They also provide<br />

makeup and standardized testing for students.<br />

Legitimate Educational Interest. One that arises from the faculty or staff<br />

m e m b e r’s fulfillment of assigned responsibilities, and disclosure shall be limited<br />

to information necessary to fulfill those responsibilities.<br />

L o a n .Financial assistance that must be paid back, usually within a specified time.<br />

Major. The student’s program of study. Students whose primary goal is to<br />

transfer to a four-year college or university enroll in the <strong>College</strong><br />

Transfer/University Parallel program. Students whose primary goal is to seek<br />

immediate employment after graduation enroll in a Career/Technical program.<br />

Non-credit Course. Any course that does not offer college credit upon<br />

completion.<br />

Part-time Student. A student enrolled in fewer than 12 credit hours during any<br />

semester.<br />

P l a c e m e n t . The <strong>College</strong> Placement Office. Placement can help<br />

Career/Technical graduates find jobs after graduation. This office may also be<br />

able to help students find jobs while enrolled.<br />

Placement Te s t . If current A C T / S ATscores are not available or if transcripts are<br />

not available showing college-level course work in math and/or English, students<br />

may be required to take the placement test to determine level of proficiency.<br />

P re re q u i s i t e .Arequirement that must be met before enrolling in certain courses.<br />

Priority Registration. The earliest opportunity to register for classes. Check<br />

the academic calendar in the Catalog and Handbook or the Schedule of Classes<br />

for dates.<br />

P.S. ... Web. The Web registration system where students can find out information<br />

such as the name of their advisor and their grades. Students can also register<br />

for classes after advisement, view their transcripts, and run a degree audit.<br />

Scholarship. Financial assistance that does not have to be paid back. Most<br />

scholarships have specific application criteria.
