CANCELLATION OF SCHEDULED CLASSES<br />

Any scheduled class may be canceled by <strong>Pellissippi</strong> <strong>State</strong>. Refunds will be<br />

made in the event classes are canceled and the student’s credit hour load drops<br />

below 12 semester hours. Any student receiving financial assistance may need to<br />

add a class. Failure to do so could result in the student’s owing a repayment of a<br />

federal grant or, if the student drops below 6 credit hours, being ineligible for a<br />

student loan.<br />

DROP, ADD AND WITHDRAWAL STANDARDS<br />

After the Final Registration period is over, students may make adjustments in<br />

their schedules by adding and/or dropping courses. A student may drop or add<br />

courses for spring and fall semesters during the drop/add period (first seven calendar<br />

days of the semester beginning with the first day of classes). For other<br />

session drop/add dates, refer to the Schedule of Classes. Courses dropped within<br />

the drop/add period are not recorded on the student’s transcript. Following the<br />

last day to add and not later than two-thirds of the term beginning with the first<br />

day of classes, a student may officially drop courses or withdraw from<br />

<strong>Pellissippi</strong> <strong>State</strong> and receive W ’s. Drop/Withdrawal forms may be secured from<br />

Admissions and Records and must be returned to that office for data entry after<br />

proper approvals have been received. A student who stops attending class and<br />

does not officially drop or withdraw from class will receive an F.<br />

Students enrolled in Developmental Studies <strong>Program</strong> (DSP) courses must meet<br />

with a counselor or DSP director to request approval to drop those courses.<br />

Students may not drop DSP courses without the approval of the DSP d i r e c t o r.<br />

Students may drop DSP courses only under serious circumstances. Serious circumstances<br />

may include a death in the family, long-term illness or similar<br />

i n s t a n c e s .<br />

Beyond the last day to drop/withdraw, students may drop/withdraw if it can<br />

be demonstrated that unusual conditions or hardships exist. Unusual conditions<br />

or hardships may include extensive illness, unexpected relocation of residence<br />

or place of employment, or other legitimate reasons that may be approved by<br />

the vice president of Academic and Student A ffairs or designee.<br />

DISMISSALS<br />

A student may be dismissed from <strong>Pellissippi</strong> <strong>State</strong> for adequate cause, including<br />

the following:<br />

• Failing to meet minimum academic standards.<br />

• Violating codes as set forth in the Student Information & Services section<br />

of this Catalog and Handbook.<br />

• Exhibiting conduct of an unacceptable nature, including the violation of<br />

local, state or national laws but not necessarily restricted to the violations of<br />

such laws or ordinances.<br />

• Giving false information on the admissions application form.<br />

• Possessing, selling, furnishing or using illegal drugs on or off campus.<br />

• Possessing, selling, furnishing or using alcoholic beverages on campus.<br />

• Failing to meet financial obligations to <strong>Pellissippi</strong> <strong>State</strong>.
