• Collaboration: 6 CRCs: viticulture, sustainable aquaculture <strong>of</strong> finfish, Australian<br />

weed management, plant breeding, water quality and treatment, tissue growth<br />

and repair NOTE: There is only ONE CRC in the medical area.<br />

• Other collaborations: molecular life science building, the Waite research precinct,<br />

livestock systems alliance in Roseworthy, CSIRO division human science and<br />

nutrition headquarters, Australia’s first industrial bioscience precinct.<br />

• Bioscience base:<br />

o R&D based on excellence,<br />

o 16% <strong>of</strong> major national grants;<br />

o Critical mass <strong>of</strong> funding $200 p.a.,<br />

entrepreneurial spirit – wants to enhance mentoring and open exchange<br />

<strong>of</strong> information (could be synergy with Adelaide University program – hook<br />

up with Rex)<br />

• Education programs for commercialization<br />

• Encourage industry to participate in mentoring program<br />

• Encourage open exchange across bioscience community<br />

• Facilitate technology interchange between organizations<br />

• Encourage technology transfer and channel into start-ups<br />
