3. PHYSICAL PLANNING
Potentials of the future economic development of the City of Ploce
The economic development of the City of Ploce projections foresee fast
growth in the fields of
agriculture, development of smaller production plants in the fields of traffic and
transport (port activities) in accordance with the new geo-political
circumstances, development of trades and crafts, catering business and
tourism as auxiliary activities.
The development of the port activity – traffic and transport activities as the
main carrier of development in this region, will depend partly on the growth of
the Bosnia and Herzegovina economy and partly on recently established geopolitical
and development strategy circumstances on the longitudinal routs-
through orientation to particular kind of cargo, necessary for the economy of
the Republic of Croatia.
3.1. DEVELOPMENT OF INFRASTRUCTURE SYSTEMS
3.1.1. MARITIME TRAFFIC SYSTEM
Planned status 2015.
• Ports of special (international) economic importance for the Republic of
Croatia
• The Port of Ploce should now, after restoration of peace and
normalization of relations on the territory of the Bosnia and
Herzegovina, regain its former position within the system of Croatian
cargo ports and this part of Europe. The fact that port capacities have
remained undamaged will considerably speed up and facilitate return
of the Port of Ploce to the pre-war status regarding both reloaded
cargo volumes and traffic volumes. Within the Port of Ploce area it is
planned to construct a new bulk cargo terminal, new container
terminal, and new liquid cargo terminal and issue a concession for the
liquefied oil gas. All these planned interventions objective is significant
improvement of the existing infrastructure and superstructure of the
port, which should become the main cargo port for the territory of
Bosnia and Herzegovina and for the north east area of Croatia and
part of Middle Europe. It has to be pointed out that part of the
operative shore in Metkovic is an integral part of the Port of Ploce
system.
II. PROVISIONS FOR REALIZAITON
139. On the territory of the County, the maritime traffic system
consists of the existing ports:
• Port of special (international) importance
o Port of Gruž-passenger port (the City of Dubrovnik)
o Port of Ploce (the City of Ploce)
