volunteer coaches/managers will be designated for.e&h<br />

athletic team representing a Coast Guard unit. Any<br />

responsible member of the team may be assigned. The<br />

individual should be thoroughly familiar with the Sport<br />

and Governing Regulations. The coach/manager will also<br />

be responsible for the conduct of the team while it is<br />

organized for competition;<br />

volunteer officials should be used at all levels of<br />

competition. Service personnel who are qualified as<br />

officials for the sport should be used. Sponsoring<br />

clinics to qualify service personnel as officials should<br />

be considered, and<br />

hiring coaches ., .., and officials at times may be necessary.<br />

Travel Orders. Except as provided for elsewhere in this<br />

Manual, individuals or groups participating in officially-<br />

sponsored sports competitions which require travel should be<br />

issued permissive orders in accordance with Article 4-D,<br />

Personnel Manual (COMDTINST M1000.6 (series)). Morale fund<br />

support is authorized. Teams and individuals should carry<br />

health records if the time away from duty station is<br />

anticipated to be more than 10 days.<br />

Admissions. Spectator fees will not be charged to eligible<br />

members for admission to athletic events in which officially<br />

sponsored Coast Guard teams are competing, nor will they be<br />

charged admission to events which are sponsored by MWR funds.<br />

Advertisinq. Programs, pamphlets, fliers, or other medium of<br />

information published by the Coast Guard in support of a MWR<br />

activity may not include advertising paid for by a<br />

commercial, profit making entity.<br />

Civilian Comnetition. Competition with other than military<br />

individuals or teams is authorized subject to the following<br />

conditions:<br />

1. Competitions with professional teams are authorized only<br />

2. Coast Guard personnel are not permitted to compete in<br />

games, contests, or exhibitions conducted by promoters or<br />

groups operating for the purpose of personal or<br />

organizational gain unless prior permission has been<br />

obtained from the district commanders, commanders of<br />

MLC'~sor.commanding"officers of'headquarters units; and<br />

3. requests for participation in benefit contests for<br />

charitable organizations shall be submitted to the<br />

district commanders, commanders of MLC's or commanding<br />

officers' of headquarters units for approval.<br />

Participation in such contests is limited to those<br />

organizations recognized by the President's Committee on<br />

Fund Raising, unless specific exceptions are requested.<br />

Commands participating in contests must ensure that all<br />

expenses are paid from proceeds of the event.<br />
