11. Sports Activities.<br />

a. Description:<br />

Eligible units may also receive prerecorded<br />

motion picture/video tapes through three<br />

separate programs:<br />

(a) NMPS video-cassette afloat program;<br />

(b) NMPS 16mm film for isolated/semi-isolated<br />

shore units; and<br />

(c) NMPS 16mm film shore pay theater,<br />

all three programs is contained in COMDTINST<br />

1710.3 (series), Coast Guard Participation in<br />

Navy Motion Picture Program and NAVMILPERSCOM<br />

INSTRUCTION 1710.1 Navy Entertainment Movie<br />

Program Administration and Operations Manual.<br />

The display, attendee, and duplication<br />

restrictions in 5.B.lO.b apply to the NMPS<br />

programs.<br />

Special attention should be given to the<br />

security requirements and the procedures<br />

pertaining to lost/stolen tapes and video-<br />

cassettes. See Chapter 6, Paragraph 621 of<br />

NAVMILPERSCOM INSTRUCTION 1710.1.<br />

(1) Informal Sports. Informal sports activities<br />

consist of spontaneously arranged competitive<br />

events between individuals or groups of<br />

individuals who normally do not participate as<br />

an organized team. Examples would include the<br />

use of tennis, handball, basketball, and<br />

volleyball courts by individuals or groups<br />

interested in a specific activity, but not<br />

necessarily interested in formal, team<br />

membership. Promotion of such sports activities<br />

will greatly increase participation and expand<br />

the use of sports facilities.<br />

(2) Intra/Intermural Sports. Intramural sports are<br />

organized competitions conducted within<br />

individual commands or among those commands<br />

served by a common <strong>morale</strong> fund. Intermural<br />
