lofiti, a shrub, Acalypha densiflora Bl.; the flowers are a remedy against cough.<br />

lofo, almost; lofo nitah, daybreak.<br />

lofo-lofo, about, approximately; lofo-lofo matero, almost the same.<br />

lofu: malolofu, two, both; e.g. ana jou bobato mufakat soah rimoi-rimoi haka baru-baru<br />

lohoko, landwind, a wind that blows seaward at night along the coasts of Halmahera and is<br />

called sibu-sibu in the Alfuru language.<br />

Loladah, a district on the northwest coast of Halmahera which belongs to the sultanate of<br />

<strong>Ternate</strong>; its head has the title of Raja.<br />

lolade bangah, a tree, Mangifera laxiflora Desr.; the bark is scraped off and used as a<br />

lopu, big stick with a silver knob; two of these sticks are carried before the troops during<br />

lou, a plant, Melocanna humilis Rupr.; the stocks are used for lath-work of houses and hedges.<br />

lowah: lowah-lowah, real, referring to a position, and meaning not in title only; e.g. jurtulis<br />

lowah-lowah, a real jurtulis, who is neither a khatibi nor has any side-employment.<br />

lolowah and silolowah, greeting upon departure.<br />

lufe-lufe, a plant, Ocimum gratissimum L.; the leaves are a medicine for babies.<br />
