TERNATE THE TERNATESE LANGUAGE<br />
Also used as a possesive pronoun, e.g. ngafalah, their houses; ngapuji, their prayers; ana ifiri<br />
taka ngakie si ngakolano, they fled and left their mountain and their ruler behind.<br />
ngaai, a beach-bird, Sterna species.<br />
ngaai ma-dodera, a floating piece of wood or some other thing on which these birds sit.<br />
ngade: 1. mangade, to change, change one’s clothes. 2. lake. In the Malay of <strong>Ternate</strong> a lake<br />
is usually indicated with the word laguna, derived from Spanish.<br />
ngaje-ngaje, or usually ngongaje, story, to tell; isingongaje, being narrated.<br />
ngali, case, event, circumstances; haka waro ma-ngali sudidi, to report what happened during<br />
the earthquake.<br />

ngarah ici, the small gate at the side of the palace which leads to the outbuildings.<br />
ngarah upas, the guards’ gate, near the entance to the fenced-in compound of the Sultan.<br />
kota ma-ngarah, the gate of the fort.<br />
ngarah ma-beno, door-post, and therefore the name of a passage between two rocks near<br />
Lolodah on Halmahera, in Valentijn mentioned as Gate of the Moluccas; the latter description<br />
is not known on <strong>Ternate</strong>.<br />
