Based on the above information, the housing backlog in the municipal area is estimated at 4 012, which is
about 11.9% of the household population. This figure is arrived at by regarding any other type of
dwelling which is not a house or brick structure on a separate stand or yard as a substandard dwelling
type for a formal household. Some of the households with access to a house or structure on a separate
stand may be exceeding the average household size of the municipality (which is at 3.8 people per
household). It is evident from the table below that more than 50% of the households with access to a
house or brick structure on a separate stand or yard have an above average household size. That may
imply more housing needs in the near future.
