All the above factors were taken into account during the strategic planning session in identifying priorities
and planning developmental and institutional programmes. The Ba-Phalaborwa Sustainable Development
Initiative, will go a long way in ensuring sustainable development and economic growth within the
municipal area.
C3.1 Ba-Phalaborwa Sustainable Development Initiative
Ba-Phalaborwa Municipality, together with its strategic partners has embarked on an initiative, The Ba-
Phalaborwa Sustainable Development Initiative, to expedite inclusive economic growth of all communities
within the municipal area to ensure a better life for all.
C3.2 SWOT Analysis
SWOT analysis is a strategic planning tool used to discuss and evaluate the Strengths, Weaknesses,
Opportunities and Threats in the municipality. It identifies the internal and external factors that influence
the strategic intent which assist the municipality to better align itself with existing conditions so as to
maximise its ability to function optimally.
The SWOT Analysis provides a better understanding of environmental influences on the municipality,
enabling it to effectively plan for the future and make strategic decisions based on this analysis. The
information which is developed through the analysis will help to bring opportunities to the fore. Resources
can be more effectively allocated when a thorough understanding of the factors affecting the municipality
are taken into account as well as factors that are hindering the municipality are discovered and addressed.
Taking into account the 2009/2010 IDP Implementation Report, community needs, situational analysis and
2009 SWOT, the following SWOT Analysis was determined:
