B6. Problem Statement The problem faced by the Ba-Phalaborwa Municipality is on the downscaling of mining activities as a result of the depleted copper body, ageing infrastructure and demand for more services . This has serious ramifications on the local labour force and the general economy of the area. The Municipality has to grow the local economy and promote job creation, whilst addressing backlogs in basic service delivery. B7. Recommendations In line with the NSDP, the LEGDS, the District Local Economic Development Plan and the Spatial Development Framework; it is recommended that the Municipality investigates the possibility of growing the tourism industry to boost the local economy. In order to achieve this strategic intent, the Municipality has to establish partnerships with both the public and private sectors. B8. Community Needs The Municipality held ward meetings in all the wards to identify community needs and their priorities for the <strong>2011</strong>/12 financial year. Ward challenges identified through the above processes were confirmed during public participation processes in the wards. Public participation processes included, Imbizos, ward report back sessions on service delivery and ward reports submitted monthly in the Municipality. The table below presents prioritized community needs.
