The number of conventional refuelingstations has declinedsince 1970 while the number of vehicle,fueling at those
stations continues to rise. In 1996, there were less than 0.5 conventionalfueling stations per thousand vehicles.
Data for alternativefuel vehicles in 1999 indicate that there was an average of 15 stationsper thousand vehicles.
