6.5 Safety In<strong>for</strong>mation For Student Travel to Schrader <strong>Truck</strong>ing<br />

A student traveling to Schrader <strong>Truck</strong>ing should be aware of the following:<br />

• While traveling to Schrader, from Schrader, or while at Schrader and you<br />

become sick or injured (or have any other problems: i.e. car trouble, issues<br />

getting into truck lot, unclear about your assignment, etc.), immediately do<br />

what you need to do to protect yourself and or obtain aid.<br />

If possible, then contact Gary Capps and explain the situation. If Gary is<br />

not available, contact Bill Knee. If Bill is not available, contact the Lab<br />

Shift Superintendent (LSS). This phone is answered 24-hours.<br />

In the event of an automobile accident, if you are able, contact the local<br />

police (911) and notify the LSS. Also, if you are able, an accident report<br />

<strong>for</strong>m should be completed. There should be one in the dash of each<br />

government vehicle.<br />

• General Steps to be taken <strong>for</strong> this offsite ef<strong>for</strong>t:<br />

1) In advance of traveling to Schrader, please be sure that Gary or Bill has been<br />

notified of your plans and have approved.<br />

2) Reserve government vehicle<br />

3) Fill out <strong>for</strong>m ORNL-143 and fax to LSS<br />

4) Upon arrival at Schrader, call 865 471 7050 (Ext 8), notify the shop that you<br />

have arrived, and ask that the gate be opened.<br />

5) Immediately travel to the shop via vehicle, and in<strong>for</strong>m them that you will be<br />

collecting data from the six test vehicles. (They already know that someone<br />

will be coming each Saturday to collect data.)<br />

6) Travel to the south end of the parking area where these six trucks are located<br />

and park the government vehicle in a safe location<br />

7) Use caution while in the lot and watch <strong>for</strong> truck traffic<br />
