Start the computer and log on, but do not open the VBOX Tools<br />

software yet.<br />

2) Make the connections<br />

between the computer and the VBOX.<br />

a) Connect the USB/Serial adapter to the computer.<br />

Note: The USB/Serial adapter should already be configured.<br />

To<br />

verify that this is the case<br />

i) Go to Start > Control<br />

Panel > Per<strong>for</strong>mance and<br />

Maintenance > System.<br />

ii) Select the Hardware tab<br />

and click on the Device<br />

Manager button.<br />

iii) Click on the + sign next to Ports (COM & LPT). The<br />

device manager should list the USB/Serial adapter that is<br />

connected (<strong>for</strong> example, Belkin serial On USB Port (COM4)).<br />

(1) If the connected adapter is shown without a warning<br />

symbol, then the adapter has been properly configured<br />

to<br />

the system; proceed to step 2)b).<br />

(2) If the ports option is not listed or if the device is shown<br />

with a yellow warning symbol, the device will not be<br />

configured to the system until properly installed.<br />

(a) If there is a yellow warning symbol next to the<br />

device, delete the device by double-clicking on the<br />

device and selecting Uninstall from the Driver screen.<br />

(b) Close the open windows and return to the Control<br />

Panel. Select Add Hardware from the left column<br />

and follow the directions to configure the adapter.<br />

The configuration CD accompanying the adapter must<br />

be inserted at the prompt; the default Windows<br />

configuration will not be recognized by the VBOX<br />

Tools software.<br />

(c) When the installation<br />

is complete, close other<br />

open programs and restart the computer.<br />

b) Connect the serial PC cable (in the VBOX kit) to the VBOX,<br />

lining up the red dot on the cable with the red mark on the<br />

housing of Socket 3. The cable should snap into place.<br />

c) Connect the USB/Serial adapter to the gray serial PC cable,<br />

screwing the sections together securely.<br />

3) Connect the lighter adapter to a power supply<br />

and the other<br />

end of into the VBOX. Turn on the power supply.<br />

NOTE: At this point, the red power LED on the VBOX<br />

should turn<br />
