8.103 The Local Government Board’s (Poor <strong>Law</strong>) Provisional Orders Confirmation<br />

(Birmingham etc) Act 1878 110 was passed to confirm six Provisional Orders made<br />

by the Local Government Board pursuant to the Poor <strong>Law</strong> Amendment Act 1867<br />

and the Divided Parishes and Poor <strong>Law</strong> Amendment Act 1876. 111 One <strong>of</strong> these<br />

Orders has already been revoked. 112 One order repealed part <strong>of</strong> an 1831 Act<br />

relating to the poor in Birmingham and became spent when the repeal took<br />

effect. 113 The effect <strong>of</strong> the remaining Orders, which altered parish boundaries, will<br />

be preserved (so far as they have any continuing utility) by the saving provision in<br />

Schedule 2 to the draft Bill. 114<br />

8.104 The Local Government Board’s Provisional Orders Confirmation (Poor <strong>Law</strong>) Act<br />

1879 115 was passed to confirm three Orders made by the Local Government<br />

Board pursuant to the Poor <strong>Law</strong> Amendment Act 1867, to change the system <strong>of</strong><br />

providing relief for the poor in Derbyshire, Manchester and Plymouth. One Order<br />

repealed part <strong>of</strong> a 1707 Act and became spent when the repeal took effect. 116<br />

The effect <strong>of</strong> the other Orders, which consolidated townships, will be preserved<br />

(so far as they have any continuing utility) by the saving provision in Schedule 2<br />

to the draft Bill. 117<br />
