(20) North East London Railway Company<br />

9.53 The North East London Railway Act 1905 82 was passed to authorise the North<br />

East London Railway Company to construct a railway from the City <strong>of</strong> London to<br />

the Essex parish <strong>of</strong> Waltham Holy Cross. 83 The powers given by the 1905 Act<br />

were extended by the North East London Railway Acts <strong>of</strong> 1906, 84 1907, 85 1908 86<br />

and 1909. 87<br />

9.54 In the event, the railway project was abandoned. Financial difficulties prevented<br />

the start <strong>of</strong> construction work and in 1910 Parliament refused to sanction a further<br />

extension <strong>of</strong> time to carry out the construction. The project was abandoned in the<br />

summer <strong>of</strong> 1910. 88 Accordingly all five Acts have become obsolete.<br />

(21) Rickmansworth, Amersham, and Chesham Railway Company<br />

9.55 The Rickmansworth, Amersham, and Chesham Railway Act 1862 89 was passed<br />

to authorise the Rickmansworth, Amersham, and Chesham Railway Company to<br />

construct railways from Rickmansworth in Hertfordshire to Amersham and<br />

Chesham in Buckinghamshire. The powers given by the 1862 Act were extended<br />

by the Rickmansworth, Amersham, and Chesham Railway (Level Crossing at<br />

Rickmansworth) Act 1864 90 and by the Rickmansworth, Amersham and Chesham<br />

Railway Amendment Act 1865. 91<br />

9.56 In the event, the railway project was abandoned. On 23 July 1875 a Board <strong>of</strong><br />

Trade warrant was issued ordering that the railway should be abandoned. 92<br />

Accordingly the 1862, 1864 and 1865 Acts have become obsolete.<br />

(22) Ruthin and Cerrig-y-druidion Railway Company<br />

9.57 The Ruthin and Cerrig-y-druidion Railway Act 1876 93 was passed to authorise the<br />

Ruthin and Cerrig-y-druidion Railway Company to construct a railway between<br />

Ruthin and Cerrigdrudion in north Wales. The powers given by the 1876 Act were<br />

extended by the Ruthin and Cerrig-y-druidion Railway (Amendment) Act 1881. 94<br />
