The Number attribute refers <strong>to</strong> the number of the adjective. In the <strong>Arabic</strong> language num-<br />
ber agreement <strong>for</strong> adjectives can be singular, dual or plural. Table 6.5 shows examples of<br />
two different <strong>Arabic</strong> adjective words, whose <strong>English</strong> translations are ‘short’ and ‘long’,<br />
please note that ‘long’ is def+.<br />
6.2.5 Demonstrative<br />
In the UniArab system we capture the in<strong>for</strong>mation shown in Figure 6.8 <strong>for</strong> each demon-<br />
strative. this consists of <strong>Arabic</strong> Demonstrative, <strong>English</strong> Translation, Demonstrative type,<br />
Gender and Number. <strong>Arabic</strong> Demonstratives represents a demonstrative in the <strong>Arabic</strong><br />
language. The <strong>English</strong> translation is the <strong>English</strong> equivalent of the <strong>Arabic</strong> Demonstra-<br />
tive. Demonstrative type can be, in the <strong>Arabic</strong> language, near <strong>to</strong> the speaker, far from the<br />
speaker or between near and far from the speaker. Gender is an <strong>Arabic</strong> attribute of the<br />
demonstrative. The Number attribute refers <strong>to</strong> number of the demonstrative. Table 6.6<br />
shows examples of two different <strong>Arabic</strong> demonstratives, whose <strong>English</strong> translations are<br />
‘this’ and ‘that’.<br />
