SUBJECT:<br />
Public hearing and consideration <strong>of</strong> a resolution amending the Hike/Bike<br />
Trail Plan in the Comprehensive Plan.<br />
BACKGROUND/RATIONALE:<br />
The Parks and Recreation Advisory Board and Parks and Recreation Staff have been<br />
working with Jim Carrillo <strong>of</strong> Halff & Associates over the past year and a half on the update to<br />
the <strong>City</strong>'s Parks and Recreation Master Plan <strong>of</strong> which the Hike and Bike Trail Plan is a part.<br />
On January 14, 2010 the Planning Commission and the Parks and Recreation Board had a<br />
joint meeting with Staff and the consultant regarding the Hike and Bike Trail Plan<br />
component.<br />
Subsequently, the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board recommended approval <strong>of</strong> the<br />
amended Hike/Bike Trail Plan as detailed in the draft update to the 2010 <strong>New</strong> <strong>Braunfels</strong><br />
Strategic Parks and Recreation Master Plan.<br />

<strong>City</strong> Council was presented the Hike and Bike Trail Plan on September 27, 2010.<br />
The Hike/Bike Trail Plan is a component <strong>of</strong> the <strong>City</strong>'s Comprehensive Plan.<br />

Objectives:<br />
A. As part <strong>of</strong> the <strong>City</strong>'s transportation plan,<br />
maintain the city-wide trails and greenbelt<br />
plan to identify a comprehensive network <strong>of</strong><br />
hike and bike trails, bike routes, pedestrian<br />
facilities, based on the analysis <strong>of</strong> existing<br />
conditions and user needs.<br />
B. Investigate the possibility <strong>of</strong> developing<br />
public access trails and greenways along<br />
creeks, drainageways and waterways<br />
throughout the community.<br />
C. Evaluate alternatives for development <strong>of</strong><br />
hike and bike trails connecting<br />
neighborhoods to schools, parks and other<br />
