Why Plan for Trails in New
Braunfels
New Braunfels has enormous potential for trail
:opportunities along the rivers and creel< system. In
conversations with residents of the City, trails were
mentioned time and time again as one of the principle
recreation facilities they would love to have. No
matter where one goes in Texas or across the United
State, trails are popular. They are extensively used
and enjoyed by the residents in those places. Trails
offer many benefits:
11 They can be used by everyone, from the very
young to the very active to the elderly.
11 Trails provide opportunities to engage in
exercise in a fun setting, whether by simple
walking or through more strenuous use such
as running or cycling. They help us lead a
healthier lifestyle.
11 Trails provide alternative ways to commute to
key city destinations, work, schools, and retail
areas.
11 Trails support economic developn:3nt by
creating attractive greenbelts that can
revitalize areas and enhance neighborhoods.
Trails provide access to local businesses, and
provide tourism opportunities. A great system
of places to wall< and ride to will make New
Braunfels an even more attractive place to live
and invest in.
ll Trails help preserve greenbelt areas and help
beautify linear park corridors.
11 Trails help us learn about the history and
culture of New Braunfels by preserving key
historical features and areas, and by making
these more accessible to view.
Purpose of the New Braunfels
Trails Plan
This strategic master plan envisions a system of trails
that connects all of New Braunfels, by allowing one to
go from one end of the city to the other in a fun and
healthy way. This plan will identify key trail corridors
and guide the creation of a citywide network. A plan
such as this will provide guidance on the preferred
location for trail corridors and will help the City acquire
greenbelt corridors for trail use. A trails plan will also
provide a framework through which the City of New
Braunfels and the private sector can work together to
jointly create spectacular trail corridors. Finally, this
plan will help New Braunfels staff, elected officials
and citizens make informed decisions as to how to
fund trail development in a satisfactory manner.
The development of a trails plan clearly speal
