Preface On the occasion of the publication of the Proceeding of the 3 rd Victorian Chinese PhD students and Young Scholars Research Workshop, I would like to extend my congratulations on the successful organization of the workshop. I would also express my congratulations on the research achievements presented on the workshop. Personally, I was very impressed by the quality and scope of the presentations on the workshop. As we are living the Information Age, communications and networking are part of important aspects of the professional career development for each of PhD students and young scholars no matter where you are. In that sense, Victorian Association of Chinese PhD Students and Young Scholars (VACPS) has played an important role in Australia, particular in Victoria. I sincerely wish that VACPSYS is more successful in creating a bridge not only among Chinese students but also between Australia and China in the exchange of science, technology and culture in future. Professor Min Gu Fellow, the Australian Academy of Science Fellow, the Australian Academy of Technological Sciences and Engineering Pro Vice-Chancellor, Swinburne University of Technology (International Research Collaboration) It is our great honour to support the 3rd Victorian Chinese PhD students and Young Scholars Research Workshop. It was a great success for this annual event held at Swinburne University of Technology this year. Organising such a workshop requires a significant dedication, I would congratulate all who were involved. The series of the Victorian Chinese PhD student s and Young Scholars Research Workshops provide an excellent platform for presenting and sharing ongoing research work among students across a variety of disciplines. It also plays an important role for networking. I wish and have no doubt that this event will continue to be fruitful.
