Graduation Function of the first batch of trainees from Training School at <strong>IGCAR</strong> -<br />

September 4, 2007<br />

First Batch of Graduates of Training school with the Chief Guest,<br />

Chairman,AEC along with senior colleagues<br />

The first twenty graduates from<br />

the BARC Training School at<br />

<strong>IGCAR</strong> have successfully<br />

completed their training and<br />

were graduated in a glittering<br />

ceremony that took place on 4<br />

September, 2007 in the Sarabhai<br />

Auditorium, Homi Bhabha<br />

Building, <strong>IGCAR</strong>. Distinguished<br />

Academician, Prof. J.B.Joshi,<br />

Director, University Institute of<br />

Chemical Technology, Mumbai<br />

was the Chief Guest and Dr. Anil<br />

Kakodkar, Chairman, AEC & Secretary, DAE presided over the occasion. Dr. M. Sai Baba, Head,<br />

Strategic and Human Resources Planning Section and Head, <strong>IGCAR</strong> Training School welcomed<br />

the gathering. Dr.Baldev Raj, Distinguished Scientist and Director, <strong>IGCAR</strong> gave the Director's<br />

address. A souvenir featuring the first year of the training programme at <strong>IGCAR</strong> was released by<br />

Prof. Joshi on this historic occasion. Dr.Anil Kakodkar then delivered the Presidential address. A<br />

few of the Trainee Scientific Officers from 1st batch voiced their feedback about the courses and<br />

their stay at the hostel. Prof. Joshi gave away the prestigious 'Homi Bhabha Prize' comprising of<br />

a medallion and books worth Rs.5000 to the meritorious topper from the Mechanical<br />

Engineering discipline, Shri. Ankur Kaushik and Shri.Sukant Kothari from the Electronics and<br />

Instrumentation discipline. He also gave away the course completion certificates to all the<br />

graduates passing out. Prof. Joshi addressed the gathering with a very inspiring and thought<br />

provoking lecture. Finally, Dr. G. Venugopal Rao, S&HRPS proposed the vote of thanks.<br />

A meet on the CEA-DAE<br />

collaboration on the theme,<br />

"Nanoscience: nanomaterials -<br />

production and characterization;<br />

interfaces - self-assembled<br />

monolayers" was held at <strong>IGCAR</strong><br />

Kalpakkam on October, 4, 2007. A<br />

six member CEA Delegation<br />

comprising of Dr. Pascal<br />

Boulangar, Dr. Nathalie Herlin-<br />

Boime, Dr. Arianna Filoramo, Dr.<br />

Roberto, Calemczuk Doris<br />

Neumann-Maazi and Hughes de Longevialle along with Dr. J.V. Yakhmi, Associate Director (P),<br />

BARC, participated in the one day meet at Kalpakkam. The technical programme comprised of<br />

presentations by CEA and <strong>IGCAR</strong> scientists and visits to the laboratories. Topics <strong>for</strong><br />

collaboration in the area of Chemical Sensors and participation in Synchrotron experiments<br />

were discussed.<br />
