performed once and abandoned; it must be constantly worked at in order to have qualified people<br />

available in the future to move into vacated positions or to allow the company to expand it<br />

activities.<br />

This function, therefore, includes such things as the development of manpower requirement for all<br />

the various existing jobs, the appraisal and selection of candidates for dates and incumbents on<br />

jobs in order to improve their used for the managerial function of staffing is human resources<br />

*iv=> The Directing function<br />

To get things done through others, a manager is called upon to direct, supervise, motivate and lead<br />

his subordinates to do the assigned jobs effectively and willingly and strive to achieve the set<br />

objectives. His is the domain of directing as a managerial function. Directing assures the<br />

performance of the assign work by individual employees. Specifically, it has been defined as the<br />

managerial activity of providing all guidance and inspiration to people at work to carry our their<br />

assigned duties of responsibility. It included explaining procedures, offering instructions on the<br />

job, issuing order and directives and seeing to it hat occurring errors are rectified in time.<br />

*v=> The Coordinating function<br />

Coordination is not generally regarded as a separate function of the manager, but it is so essential<br />

to the successful performance of nay manager. It is a managerial process whereby the effort of a<br />

group is synchronized or unified, so that the desired objective is easily achieved. If there are<br />

multiple goals in the people’s minds, coordination of effort may be impossible. To coordinate<br />

therefore means to unite all activities.<br />

Coordination is the central problem of an organization. Without coordination, people and<br />

departments would lose sight of their roles within the organization and be tempted to pursue their<br />

own special or personal interest often at the expense of the organizational goals. Thus,<br />

coordinating provides the requisite unity and harmony needed to attain organizational goals.<br />

Basically, coordination is interested in synchronization of all efforts to provide their (1) their<br />

proper amount (2) proper timing, and (3) proper directing and/or motivating; so that all unified<br />

and harmonized activities can be performed in proper sequence and at proper time to achieve<br />

desired objective. Communications plays an important role in coordination; for many breakdowns<br />
