Glossary <br />
Client – GUI that monitors jobs and allows configuration of the Server. <br />
Clustering – The use of multiple machines on a network for distributed processing. <br />
CMM – Colour Management Module. <br />
CRT – Cathode Ray Tube. Describes the type of monitor. <br />
CTP – Computer to Plate. <br />
CUPS – Common UNIX Printing System. <br />
Data Types – Database groups such as Pagesetups or RIPs etc. <br />
DPI – Dots Per Inch (resolution). <br />
EPS – Encapsulated Postscript File. <br />
FTP – File Transfer Protocol – Method for copying files between computers across networks. <br />
GUI – Graphical User Interface. <br />
ICC – International Color Consortium. <br />
ICC Profile – A colour lookup table used for converting colour of a job from one device to another. <br />
LAN – Local Area Network. <br />
LCD – Liquid Crystal Display. <br />
LPI – Lines Per Inch (Screen Ruling). <br />
Master – A Master Server, controlling Slave nodes in a Clustering environment. <br />
QueueManager – Client module that displays job queues and jobs in those queues. <br />
QueueStatus – Monitors the progress of a job through the system. <br />
Real Density – Colour content of a patch as measured. <br />
RIP – Raster Image Processor. <br />
Server – <strong>Software</strong> module that handles the processing of jobs. <br />
Slave (Node) – A separate processing node on the network. Used for processing jobs by a Master. <br />
TCP/IP – Transmission Control Protocol / Internet Protocol. <br />
Visual Density – The darkness of the patch measured (how much light is absorbed). The more light absorbed, the <br />
darker the Visual Density. <br />
WAN – Wide Area Network. <br />
Workbench – Client application used to configure the Server. <br />
YN – Yule Nielsen Number. <br />
Yule Nielsen Number – A “fudge factor” used when calculating % tint (dot area) from density readings. <br />
