Occupancy<br />

Multiple meetings were held with the <strong>City</strong>’s Building Official to<br />

determine the criteria for evaluating occupant loads on the new<br />

Pier. The new Pier <strong>of</strong>fers multiple assembly areas with accessory<br />

use mercantile businesses. Maximum occupant loads will be<br />

calculated during peak use times such as the 4th <strong>of</strong> July. A<br />

decrease <strong>of</strong> 5% in the total net square footage number has been<br />

allowed to account for fixed benches, structural columns, trash<br />

cans and other site furnishings. This net usable area is used to<br />

calculate occupant loads.<br />

Outdoor areas such as “yards, patios, courts and similar outdoor<br />

areas accessible to and usable by building occupants shall be<br />

provided with means <strong>of</strong> egress as required. The occupant load<br />

<strong>of</strong> such outdoor areas shall be assigned by the building <strong>of</strong>ficial<br />

in accordance with the anticipated use” (2010 Florida Building<br />

Code 1004.8).<br />
