Wind Data<br />

Extreme value analysis <strong>of</strong> historical wind speeds recorded at<br />

MacDill Air Force Base from 1941 to 2011 indicate the following<br />

wind speed return periods:<br />

• 25-year return period: 74 mph<br />

• 50-year return period: 83 mph<br />

• 100-year return period: 92 mph<br />

Wind data is sourced from the document Metocean and<br />

<strong>St</strong>ructural Concept Level Design Basis prepared by M<strong>of</strong>fatt &<br />

Nichol for the <strong>St</strong>. <strong>Petersburg</strong> Design Competition.<br />

Figure 3.28 depicts winds recorded at Albert Whitted Airport<br />

in <strong>St</strong>. <strong>Petersburg</strong> between the years <strong>of</strong> 1995 and 2012. The<br />

recurrence <strong>of</strong> directional extreme winds should be further<br />

evaluated for final design.<br />
