<strong>UNESCO</strong> International Institute for Educational<br />

Planning (IIEP)<br />

The <strong>General</strong> <strong>Conference</strong>,<br />

Acknowledging the report of the <strong>UNESCO</strong> International Institute for Educational Planning (IIEP) for the<br />

2010-2011 biennium,<br />

Recognizing the importance of maintaining the functional autonomy of the Institute in order to ensure that<br />

it can provide services to the Member States in a flexible, effective and efficient way,<br />

1. Emphasizes and values the important contribution of IIEP to the fulfilment of the relevant strategic<br />

objectives and the priorities of Major Programme I, particularly with regard to capacity development<br />

and research, in the areas of educational planning and policy analysis;<br />

2. Requests the IIEP Governing Board, in accordance with the Institute’s Statutes and the present<br />

resolution, when approving the Institute’s budgets for 2012-2013 to ensure that the Institute’s<br />

programmes and activities:<br />

are aligned with IIEP’s Medium-Term Plan, as well as with the strategic objectives, priorities,<br />

and expected results of Major Programme I;<br />

reinforce Member States’ capacities for the management, planning and administration of<br />

education systems, including through operational projects in its field of competence;<br />

strengthen national, sub-regional and interregional training programmes in educational<br />

planning, administration, evaluation and monitoring in cooperation with the other <strong>UNESCO</strong><br />

education institutes, as well as the <strong>UNESCO</strong> Institute for Statistics, and <strong>UNESCO</strong> field offices;<br />

develop practice-oriented knowledge in educational planning and management with a view to<br />

sharing and transferring it among Member States;<br />

3. Authorizes the Director-<strong>General</strong> to support the operation of the Institute by granting a financial<br />

allocation under Major Programme I for a total amount of $5,500,000;<br />

4. Expresses its gratitude to the Member States and organizations that have supported the Institute’s<br />

activities through voluntary contributions and contractual agreements, as well as to the Argentinean<br />

and French Governments, which provide the Institute’s premises free of charge and periodically<br />

finance their upkeep, and invites them to continue their support for 2012-2013 and beyond;<br />

5. Appeals to Member States, international governmental and non-governmental organizations, donor<br />

agencies and the private sector to grant, renew or increase their voluntary contributions, with a view<br />

to strengthening the activities of IIEP, in accordance with Article VIII of its Statutes, so that it may<br />

better meet the needs of Member States in all fields of Major Programme I;<br />

6. Requests the Director-<strong>General</strong> to report periodically, to the governing bodies, in the statutory reports,<br />

on IIEP’s contribution to the achievement of the following expected results of Major Programme I:<br />

(1) national capacities strengthened for policy formulation and planning focusing on quality and<br />

gender equality issues, and drawing on information and communication technologies (MLA 1<br />

– expected result 1)<br />

(2) education stakeholders informed through evidence-based research and studies on emerging<br />

trends and challenges in education (MLA 4 – expected result 14)<br />
