strengthen the role of the Africa Department as a focal point for all matters relating to<br />

Africa;<br />

(b)<br />

to allocate for this purpose a sum of $1,437,100 for activity costs and $3,835,400 for staff costs;<br />

2. Requests the Director-<strong>General</strong> to report periodically to the governing bodies, in the statutory reports,<br />

on the achievement of the following expected results:<br />

(1) impact of <strong>UNESCO</strong>’s programmes in Africa increased and strengthened through improved<br />

identification of Africa’s priority development needs and joint/shared implementation, in<br />

particular with the AU and agencies of the United Nations system and/or regional, subregional,<br />

national and local intermediaries/partners<br />

(2) intersectoral coordination, crucial to collective ownership in terms of the design,<br />

implementation and evaluation of programmes for Africa as a “global priority”, (i) boosted<br />

through the restructuring, reactivation and enhancement of existing coordination mechanisms,<br />

and (ii) strengthened by the introduction of innovative mechanisms, in particular promising<br />

special projects and programmes<br />

(3) relations with Member States in Africa consolidated and networks of bilateral, multilateral and<br />

civil society and private sector partnerships to support “Global Priority Africa” established and<br />

mobilized at the intra-African and international levels<br />

(4) visibility of <strong>UNESCO</strong>’s action in Africa strengthened<br />

3. Further requests the Director-<strong>General</strong> to report periodically in the same statutory reports on<br />

measures taken to optimize the use of resources in the implementation of programme activities,<br />

including travel, contractual services and publications.<br />
