13302 The division provides operational support to knowledge and information management systems<br />

(KIMS) of the Organization and to the organization-wide ICT Strategy by ensuring the coherence,<br />

harmonization and coordination of system integration activities and the security and cost-effectiveness<br />

of ICT infrastructure management through outsourcing modalities where applicable. The division also<br />

provides support for the development and operation of all in-house management information systems<br />

and business applications of the Organization.<br />

13303 With a view to mitigate operational risks, the division will put in place the suitable measures for the<br />

implementation of the IT security policy and further elaborate and implement a Business Continuity<br />

and Disaster recovery plan.<br />

13304 The evolution in technologies allowing the integration of voice, video and data communication will<br />

make it possible for the division to work on establishing a unified communications network which will<br />

reduce global communications costs, improve Visio and Audio conferencing and help in enhancing<br />

business operations and processes. This will further consolidate the work and communication links<br />

between <strong>UNESCO</strong> at Headquarters and in the Field.<br />

13305 Further development of the Electronic Records Management systems, including the integration<br />

of multimedia archiving capabilities will contribute to the visibility of the organization through the<br />

internet. Enhancing the capability of electronic records management and the availability of digital<br />

documents will form the basis for Knowledge Management with a view to provide relevant information<br />

in a rapid manner to users and decision-makers.<br />

13306 Expected results at the end of the biennium:<br />

IT security policy, risk register, business continuity and disaster recovery plan<br />

developed for IT systems, services and infrastructure<br />

Unified communications network with Voice over Internet Protocol (VOIP)<br />

technology developed encompassing both HQs and the Field Offices and<br />

Multimedia capabilities integrated into Electronic Records Management system<br />

Organizational knowledge management supported by electronic records<br />

management<br />

‘Greening’ <strong>UNESCO</strong> supported and carbon footprint reduced<br />

Chapter 4 – <strong>Conference</strong>s, languages and documents<br />

Unit responsible: Division of <strong>Conference</strong>s, Languages and Documents (ADM/CLD)<br />

13401 The Division provides conference services, interpretation services, translation services, document<br />

production and distribution services to central services, program sectors, the governing bodies.<br />

The Division provides translations in all 6 official languages of <strong>UNESCO</strong>’s documents, publications<br />

and other information materials. It provides interpretation in all 6 official languages to programme<br />

conferences and meetings, facilitating communication between different language communities. It<br />

produces and distributes high quality multilingual products (in soft or hard copy). The services are<br />

provided by a combination of permanent staff, temporary assistance, and external service suppliers<br />

(individuals and companies).<br />
