Expected result 2: Intersectoral coordination, crucial to collective ownership in<br />

terms of the design, implementation and evaluation of programmes for Africa<br />

as a “global priority”, (i) boosted through the restructuring, reactivation and<br />

enhancement of existing coordination mechanisms, and (ii) strengthened by the<br />

introduction of innovative mechanisms, in particular promising special projects<br />

and programmes<br />

Performance indicators<br />

▪ Priority programmes, decisions of <strong>UNESCO</strong>’s governing bodies concerning Africa, and those of joint<br />

<strong>UNESCO</strong>-African Union commissions taken duly into account in work plans and reported on regularly<br />

to Member States.<br />

▪ Activities of the intersectoral platform on Africa as a framework for “Priority Africa” implementation and<br />

evaluation energized and allocated greater resources.<br />

▪ A portfolio of promising, special intersectoral projects in science, technology and innovation, science<br />

education, culture for development and culture of peace developed and promoted among partners.<br />

Expected result 3: Relations with Member States in Africa consolidated<br />

and networks of bilateral, multilateral and civil society and private sector<br />

partnerships to support Global Priority Africa established and mobilized at the<br />

intra-African and international levels<br />

Performance indicators<br />

▪ Interest, support, ownership and participation in and for <strong>UNESCO</strong>’s initiatives and programmes for<br />

Africa by Member States, the Africa group and civil society increased.<br />

▪ An action plan/strategy to mobilize substantive, technical and financial intra-African and international<br />

partnerships developed and implemented.<br />

▪ One training workshop per subregion on regional integration organized and projects set up by African<br />

National Commissions in the framework of North-South-South cooperation.<br />

Expected result 4: Visibility of <strong>UNESCO</strong>’s action in Africa strengthened<br />

Performance indicators<br />

▪ A number of studies on specific problems of concern/interest to Africa produced and distributed.<br />

▪ A number of publications on <strong>UNESCO</strong>’s relations/cooperation with Africa produced and distributed.<br />

▪ Viewing of the AFR website increased.<br />

to gender equality and the empowerment of women and provides advice to the Director-<strong>General</strong><br />
