Bank joint needs assessments, the Inter-Agency Standing Committee/Executive Committee on
Humanitarian Affairs (IASC/ECHA) and other common programming and funding mechanisms,
as well as to UNESCO’s initiatives in reconciliation and peace-building. BFC acts as liaison with the
relevant inter-agency mechanisms and facilitates and coordinates the smooth flow of information
and interactions between Headquarters and field offices concerned. It also provides administrative
and management backstopping to UNESCO’s operations in post-conflict and post-disaster situations
and supports as necessary the rapid deployment of UNESCO’s on-site presence to facilitate the
Organization’s immediate response. BFC is also tasked with ensuring knowledge management and
the sharing of good practices from UNESCO’s post-conflict and post-disaster operations, through the
creation and maintenance of internal and public information and training tools.
