Erasmus ECTS Information Package Faculty of EEEA PROFESSIONAL STANDARDS OF A BACHELOR IN AUTOMATICS AND MECHATRONICS Subject: Automatics and Mechatronics Degree awarded: BEng Professional Qualification: Automation Engineer Duration: 4 years (8 terms) The main goal of the Automatics and Mechatronics degree course is to prepare highly-qualified, wideprofiled specialists with solid general technical skills and extensive knowledge of automatics, mechatronics and modern information and control systems. The speciality meets the specific needs in different fields like industry, communications, transport, ecology, agriculture and follows the dynamics of their development. General and specialist training. • A Bachelor of Engineering in Automatics and Mechatronics obtains basic engineering training in mathematics, physics, mechanics and mechanical systems, programming and computer applications, electrical engineering, electronics, microprocessors, electrical machines and devices, economics. • The special training includes obtaining of thorough knowledge in the area of control systems, process control, sensors, mechatronic systems, control of electromechanical systems. It focuses on the study of computer programming, control system modelling and simulation, CAD systems, application of computer control and measurement systems, modern approaches for signal and data processing, system identification and control system design. General and specialist skills. A Bachelor of Engineering in Automatics and Mechatronics acquires general and specialist skills such as: • design of elements and systems for process control and mechatronics; • implementation, adjustment and support of automation systems and mechatronic systems; • programming, test and tuning of computer control and measurement systems; • use of advanced PC – based technologies for data acquisition and signal processing; • development and application of quality control systems; • application of computer software MATLAB, LabView, and the programming language C++. Career opportunities. The wide-profiled qualification and profound knowledge in the field of automatics, information and control systems provides the bachelor with the opportunity to find employment in different areas of the economy such as in: • firms and enterprises as designers and industrial automation engineers and mechatronic engineers; • firms and enterprises with special measurement and control system departments, mechatronic departments, power sections, measurement and control system labs and quality control labs; • small and medium enterprises as test and implementation engineers of automation systems and mechatronics; • industrial enterprises as operators of automation systems; • industrial enterprises as managing engineers of production workshops. 112
