The Department of Telecommunications was established in the year 2000.<br />

Staff:<br />

• 16 lecturers including 3 Professors and 4<br />

Associate Professors, 2 PhD Principal<br />

Lecturers and 7 Principal Lecturers;<br />

• 1 administrative staff;<br />

• 11 PhD students, of which 6 full-time and 5<br />

part-time<br />

Teaching activities:<br />

The teaching staff of the Department is responsible<br />

for the teaching process in the Telecommunication<br />

Systems course. The course has been accredited by the National Accreditation Agency of the Republic<br />

of Bulgaria.<br />

The Department teaches Bachelor part-time and full-time students doing the Telecommunication<br />

Systems, Master part-time and full-time students doing the Telecommunication Systems and<br />

Telecommunication Networks and PhD students in two scientific areas: Telecommunication networks<br />

and systems and Theoretical basis of telecommunication systems. The curricula, the syllabuses and the<br />

subjects that the department is responsible for, are in full correspondence with the ones taught in<br />

leading European universities. They have been developed in co-operation with universities from<br />

England, Germany, France, Netherlands, and the Technical universities of Sofia, Varna and Gabrovo.<br />

Research activities:<br />

The academic staff, the PhD students and the undergraduates do research in the following fields:<br />

• Telecommunication networks<br />

• Digital processing and transmission of signals;<br />

• Radio systems;<br />

The lecturers work on V-th FP (Vth<br />

Framework Program) projects,<br />

NATO projects and have contracts<br />

with companies. The scientific<br />

production of the members of the<br />

Department has been published in<br />

local and international conference<br />

proceedings and journals.<br />

The department is an institutional<br />

member of the International<br />

Federation of Automatic Control<br />

/IFAC/ and the Automation and<br />

<strong>Information</strong> Union. It has good co-operation with leading companies working in the telecommunication<br />

field in our country: CISCO – Bulgaria, Siemens – Bulgaria, Vivacom, Mobiltel, Jonhson Control,<br />
