The Department has taken active part in a great deal of
international programs like ERASMUS, DAAD and won
the first prize at the international exhibition of inventions
and innovations EXPO`91. The Department participates
as a partner in a FP5 project titled Biomass
cogeneration network BIOCOGEN. The academic staff
has been actively involved in different professional,
scientific, national and international organizations such
as the Union of the Bulgarian Research Workers, IEEE
and others.
With the assistance of CIGR, the Department, together
with other university departments, organizes regularly
an international scientific conference ‘Energy Efficiency
and Agricultural Engineering’. The staff of the department participates in the activities of the Research
Fund and in the technical servicing of companies from the region and the district.
The following main results have been achieved:
• The Department has developed new curricula and syllabi for
both the Bachelor and Master Degree courses in ‘Electrical Power
Engineering’. These comply with the Regulations of the Council of
Ministers about uniform state requirements for obtaining university
degree in the ‘Electrical Power Engineering’ course and they are in line
with the curriculum of other similar degree courses in the country.
• The Department has signed bilateral agreements for student
and staff exchange within the ERASMUS program with universities
from Great Britain, Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Germany and Greece.
The Department is initiator of the creation of the Association of the
Agricultural Engineers from the countries of South-East Europe and is
its active member. It widens the sphere of this collaboration
incessantly.
• The Department possesses modern equipment. A contract with
Schneider Electric Bulgaria, PLC, was signed in 2001 which marked
the beginning of a new kind of collaboration between the business and
the academic spheres. In compliance with this contract, a Learning
Centre in Communications was established and low voltage protection devices and, periodically,
modern equipment is provided. Computer laboratories for students and postgraduate students were
built under a project financed by the World Bank. These are connected with the university Intranet
that is part of the global network INTERNET and provides opportunity for information exchange.
• The Department of Electrical Power
Engineering has published numerous teaching
materials and web-based courses to provide proper
reference literature for the students of Electrical
Power Engineering. Over the 2007-2011 period the
lecturers from the Department have produced:
• 132 scientific publications in the country and
abroad including 104 participations with research
papers at international scientific conferences in
Bulgaria and 10 research papers presented at
international conferences abroad;
