Erasmus ECTS Information Package Faculty of EEEA PROFESSIONAL STANDARDS OF A MASTER IN ELECTRICAL POWER ENGINEERING Degree course: Electrical Power Engineering Degree awarded: Master of Engineering (MEng) Professional Qualification: Power engineer (MEng) Duration: 1 year (2 terms) The main goal of the Electrical Power Engineering course is to prepare highly-qualified masters of power engineering. There are several professional requirements that masters of electrical power engineering have to meet. They have to manage and take part in: • scientific research in the field of electrical power systems and equipment; • the design process of techno-economical tasks for constructing and developing new technical tools for the needs of electrical power systems and equipment; • the design and exploitation of electrical power systems and equipment for industrial and agricultural enterprises; • testing and repairing of electrical motors and apparatus, electrical and cable networks, distribution devices, electrical panels and other electrical equipment tools; • businesses in the field of electrical technologies for industrial and agricultural enterprises; • developing and exploiting aggregates and installations with alternative energy sources. The Master of Electrical Power Engineering has to possess high professional expertise, good language skills and general knowledge of economics, management, marketing, organization of scientific research, computer and electronic systems literacy. The teaching process is based on: • Complex preparation, which includes: Modeling and investigating electrical power systems, Technical systems for electrical safety, Management, Alternative energy sources, Research work, Communication and information systems in electrical power systems. • Fundamental preparation, which includes: Design systems in electrical power systems, Special electrical power equipment, Optimization of electrical power systems, Measurement and control in electrical power supply, Design and production technology for electro technical installations, Electronic converters in electrical power systems, Electrical networks and installations diagnostics, Reliability of electrical energy system, etc. • Specialized preparation, which includes implementation of Diploma practice in real working power stations. Job-specific tasks for automation and management of energy objects, automation design in the field of electrical power systems by means of special computer software are considered during the development of the Diploma thesis, and at the same time specialized company information on new technologies in electrical power systems is used. A Master of Electrical Power Engineering should have the following general academic and professional skills: • to pose, manage and solve self-dependently tasks in the field of electrical power systems and equipment; • to apply the obtained knowledge in practice with creative thinking; • to implement complex techno-economical approaches and to apply modern methods and tools for fixed research and engineering task solving. 214
