At the beginning of its establishment it included four lecturers in Theory of Electrical Engineering from the Department of Automation of Industry and six lecturers from the Department of Computational Engineering. The first Head of the department was Associate Professor G. Antonov, MEng, PhD. The department provides training for students in subjects, included in the main module of studies, taken during the second, third and fourth semesters: • Theory of electrical engineering • Electrical measurements • Electrical engineering and electronics • Electronics • Synthesis and analysis of logic devices The subjects Theory of Electrical Engineering, Theory of Electrical Engineering part 1 and part 2, Electrical Measurements and Synthesis and Analysis of Logical Devices are taught to all degree courses from the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Electronics and Automation. Basic electrical engineering and electronics is taught to all non-electrical engineering courses from the faculties of Agricultural and Industrial Engineering, Transport, Mechanical Engineering, and Business and Management. As of January 1 st 2012, the Department consists of one Professor, four Associate Professors (one of them of additional contract), six principal assistants (four of them PhD degree holders) and two administrative staff. The lecturers in Theory of Electrical Engineering have organized and hosted national student competitions many times. The University of Ruse was host of such competitions in Theory of Electrical Engineering in 1986, 1992, 2003 and 2007. The team of the University of Ruse came first in 1981, 1984, 2003, 2004 and 2009. It has also won other awards. 45
Erasmus ECTS Information Package Faculty of EEEA The Department carries out research in the following scientific areas: • Special welding current sources and electrical machines; • Electrical technologies in plant growing and in tobacco growing; • Electric filters with switching capacitors; • Theoretic fundamentals of quantity methods in electrical engineering; • Electrical measuring instruments; • Modelling the processes and object control in agriculture and industry; Renewable energy sources; • System programming; Modelling and simulation; • Microclimate monitoring and control; • Specialized microprocessor based systems and telemetry; • Holographic methods for complex image reconstruction. The Department of Theoretical and Measuring Electrical Engineering has seven laboratories. Its facilities are used for teaching and supervision of undergraduate and postgraduate students from all courses of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Electronics and Automation (including all other faculties of the University) in the Bachelor and Master degrees. 46
