Erasmus ECTS Information Package
Faculty of EEEA
2519 Mathematics 1
ECTS credits: 7
Weekly classes: 3lec+2sem+0labs+1ca
Assessment: exam
Type of exam: written
Departments involved:
Department of Algebra and Geometry
Faculty of Natural Sciences and Education
Lecturers:
Assoc. Prof. Tsetska Grigorova Rashkova, MSc, PhD, Dept. of Algebra and Geometry, tel.: 082 888 489,
E-mail: tcetcka@ami.uni-ruse.bg.
Abstract:
The course is a basic one in the study of mathematics. It uses the mathematical knowledge given in secondary
schools and repeats some of it on a higher level. It is essential for the next mathematical subjects, Physics,
Mechanics, TBE and others.
Course content:
Complex numbers. Systems of linear equations and determinants. Matrix calculus. Line in the plane. Lines and
planes in space – forms of determining and common positions. Linear spaces and linear operators. Second order
curves and surfaces. Functions and sequences. Limits and derivatives. Basic theorems of differential calculus.
Applications of derivatives for investigating functions. Indefinite integral – definitions and basic properties; methods
of calculation - integration by parts, integration by substitution, integration of rational, irrational and transcendental
functions.
Teaching and assessment:
The theory in the lectures is supported with many examples and problems. The seminars focus is on getting
knowledge for working by one’s own. Problems are given in this direction aiming the preparation for the next
tutorials. Two tests take place. A mark on any of them at least 4,50 gives the possibility for an oral discussion on
the corresponding part’s theory. Thus the student could diminish the material for the final exam or to get his final
mark earlier, at the end of the semester. The exam includes solving 6 elements (problems and theory) and for
passing the student has to overcome at least 2 of them. A course assignment is done by every student. Its
successful presentation and the students’ presence at all tutorials are obligatory elements for the semester
certifying.
2521 Physics 1
ECTS credits: 5
Weekly classes: 2lec+0sem+2labs
Assessment: exam
Type of exam: written
Departments involved:
Department of Physics
Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Electronics and Automation
Lecturers:
Assoc. Prof. Tamara Grigorievna Pencheva, MSc, PhD, Dept. of Physics, tel.: 082 888 218,
Abstract:
The course in physics is a theoretical background for all engineering subjects. The course aims at familiarizing the
students with the physical character of processes and phenomena in nature and the methods of their investigation,
with the most general properties of the matter and the structure of the material objects. The offered course is a
general one and it comprises the main parts of the classical and modern physics. The laboratory exercises aim at
creating skills for experimental investigation of physical phenomena.
Course content:
Measuring physical quantities. Mechanics of a material point and rigid body. Gravitation. Work and energy. Laps
of conservation in mechanics. Molecular physics and thermodynamics. Electric field and electric current.
Teaching and assessment:
Lectures give the main theoretical material, supported by some demonstrations of physical phenomena and
processes. At the laboratory exercises the students work independently and investigate particular physical
phenomena.
The knowledge of the laboratory exercises is tested regularly and the students receive a mark on the laboratory
exercises.
At the exam the students answer two theoretical questions and do one laboratory exercise.
