The department has been accredited by the National<br />
Evaluation and Accreditation Agency and can teach<br />
students in Bachelor and Master academic degrees. It<br />
teaches the ‘Electrical Power Engineering’ degree<br />
course and the students are awarded the professional<br />
qualification of Electrical Engineer. The curriculum,<br />
which is used in the study process, has been devised<br />
after exploring the experience of different universities in<br />
Europe and the USA, and with the participation of<br />
leading experts from The Ministry of Electrical Power<br />
Engineering of the Republic of Bulgaria, The National<br />
Electrical Company, The Bulgarian Chamber of<br />
Electrical Engineering, Electrical Supply and<br />
Distribution Companies.<br />
The Department of ELECTRICAL POWER<br />
ENGINEERING was created in December 1973.<br />
Three professors, 8 associate professors, 4 PhD<br />
engineers and 2 assistant professors work in it.<br />
They have taught and trained over 2000 qualified<br />
electrical engineers who work in Bulgaria and<br />
other countries. The lecturers from this<br />
department teach also students from the following<br />
degree courses: ‘Electronics and Automation’,<br />
‘Industrial Design’, ‘Ecology and Environment<br />
Protection’, ‘Industrial Management’ and<br />
‘Management in Agriculture’.<br />
The department has 9 complex laboratories.<br />
Industrial patterns, active models and modulation<br />
devices are used in the classes for practice<br />
exercises.<br />
By decision of the National Evaluation and<br />
Accreditation Agency, the Department can teach<br />
postgraduate students as well. The scientific spheres in<br />
which they are taught are: ‘Electrical Power<br />
Engineering’, ‘Electrical Supply and Automation of<br />
Agricultural Industry’, ‘Electrical Technologies’ and<br />
‘Energy Efficiency and Alternative Energy Sources’.<br />
The number of postgraduate students that have been<br />
taught is over 45 including foreign postgraduate<br />
students from Vietnam, Bangladesh, Morocco, Syria<br />
and Yemen. Over 520 research papers and articles<br />
have been published in Bulgarian and international<br />
scientific journals, conference and congress<br />
proceedings, and 36 patents have been received.<br />
