Abstract:<br />

The subject matter of the discipline are cultural differences in perceptions, beliefs, attitudes and values, all of<br />

which form the basis of existing cultures and cultural orientations. These often build up barriers to communication<br />

in a multicultural environment. Their understanding and management makes the world of globalizing business<br />

more open to contacts and supports the development of multicultural group management and the successful<br />

functioning of multinational companies.<br />

Course content:<br />

Intercultural communication - functions, characteristics, elements of culture, the concepts of mine/ours-foreign and<br />

otherness. Acquisition of one own's culture and foreign culture. The view on cultural grammar and the ideas of<br />

eminent researchers in the field of Intercultural Communication. Communication and socio-psychological<br />

peculiarities of Intercultural Communication. The processes of intercultural adaptation and cultural sensibilisation.<br />

Multiculturalism and globalization. Management of multicultural teams.<br />

Teaching and assessment:<br />

Teaching technology envisages the acquisition of the course content through lectures and seminars whose goal is<br />

active students’ participation in the development of the course units. The final <strong>ECTS</strong> grade in Intercultural<br />

Communication is based on the results from three components: two multiple choice written tests, including also<br />

case analysis (for each - 40%) and participation in discussions and presentations (20%).<br />

Abstract:<br />

This interdisciplinary course aims to acquaint students with the institutional frame of the EU, its structure and the<br />

intensive law-making processes taking place there. An additional emphasis is laid on those national institutions in<br />

Bulgaria closely linked with the process of European integration and the decision-making there. Attention is paid to<br />

the ongoing enlargement and the perspectives for the reformation of EU institutions.<br />

Course content:<br />

The EU as a legal body - division of competences among institutions and between the EU and its institutions, on<br />

the one hand, and between member countries and their respective societies, on the other. EU institutions. Legal<br />

acts of the EU: types, juristic action and procedures for their acceptance. The role of national institutions in EU<br />

decision making. Bulgarian institutions linked with Euro-integration. The future of the EU.<br />

Teaching and assessment:<br />

Teaching is by seminars. A testing on a regular basis is provided. The semester finishes with a summarized test<br />

for which the students should be able to show not only theoretical competence but skills to interpret concrete legal<br />

situations from activities of EU institutions and their compatibility with the legislation of member or accession<br />

countries. The final <strong>ECTS</strong> grade is based on three components: the result from the participation and attendance<br />

during seminars, the regular and summarized control tests.<br />
