PROFESSIONAL STANDARDS
OF A MASTER IN
TELECOMMUNICATION NETWORKS
Degree course: Telecommunication Networks
Degree awarded: Master of Engineering in Telecommunication Networks
Professional Qualification: Telecommunications Engineer (MEng)
Duration: 1 year (2 terms)
The main goal of the master’s degree course is to equip the graduates with in-depth professional
knowledge and skills to solve engineering problems in the field of telecommunications namely design,
control and analysis of telecommunication networks.
The duration of the master’s degree course is two terms for full time students and three terms for parttime
students including the writing of the diploma project.
Pre-requisites:
This course is intended for graduates in:
• BEng in Telecommunication Systems;
• BEng and MEng in Computer Systems and Technologies;
• BEng and MEng in Electronics;
• BEng and MEng in Automation, Information and Control Systems
who are admitted to the Telecommunication Networks Master’s Degree Course.
General description:
The Master’s degree course includes subjects such as Routing Protocols, Teletraffic Systems, Design
and Architectures of the Video Systems, Distributed Databases, Coding and Security in
Telecommunication Networks, Specialized Microprocessor Systems, Broadband Mobile Systems,
Modelling of Telecommunication Networks, Geographical Information Systems and Communication in
Industrial Networks. The individual research provides an opportunity for acquiring in-depth knowledge in
a specific area in the field of telecommunications and helps the students to write their Diploma projects.
The students can choose various optional language acquisition subjects. At the University the students
can use unlimited internet connection and all the library resources. They can also use the numerous
laboratory resources and the PhD room supplied with office equipment and various software tools.
The degree course finishes with the writing, presentation and defence of a Diploma project.
The Master’s degree course in Telecommunication Networks has been designed to provide the students
with an in-depth insight into the key technological areas that are driving the mobile communications
revolution.
Most of the graduates move straight into permanent career employment in companies of all sizes round
the globe. The majority take up positions as design engineers, software engineers, or development
engineers in the public and private sectors, industry, and some move into management, marketing,
transport, banking, etc. Some set up their own companies and go on to become the industrial leaders of
tomorrow. Some go on to do further study or training.
Masters of Engineering in Telecommunication Networks must have clear understanding of their
role and significance in the developing global information society and the responsibilities
associated with that.
