OF A MASTER IN
AUTOMATICS AND MECHATRONICS
Degree course: Automatics and Mechatronics
Degree awarded: Master of Engineering
Professional qualification: Automation Engineer, MEng
Duration: 1 year (2 terms)
The main objective of the master’s course in Automatics and Mechatronics to prepare highly qualified,
wide profiled specialists with solid fundamental and general technical skills and enhanced knowledge of
modern control systems and information systems and technologies. The speciality meets the specific
needs of different sectors of the national economy like: industry, communications, transport, ecology,
agriculture, and follows the dynamics of their development.
The course content includes:
• Fundamental knowledge of control theory, control systems, theory of the experiment, image
processing, pattern recognition, artificial intelligence, information and multimedia technologies.
• Specialized knowledge in programming languages and systems, process control, computer
control and measurement systems, distributed control systems, industrial networks, mechatronics,
computer vision and other advanced topics in the area of information and control technologies.
The professional ability of a master of engineering in Automatics and Mechatronics includes carrying
out investigations, designing, implementing and utilizing computer control and information systems,
performing manufacturing, engineering and management activities and research work.
The wide profiled qualification and the profound knowledge in the field of automatics, information and
control systems gives the opportunity to the masters of engineering to successfully find employment as
employees or managers of engineering businesses, researchers, experts, teachers and company
managers.
The curriculum includes compulsory and some optional courses, which are divided in two semesters.
They are separated in two subject areas. The first one widens the fundamental knowledge of the
speciality. The second one provides special knowledge and skills in the area of the computer measuring
and control systems, distributed control, programmable controllers for process applications,
mechatronics, computer vision systems, information and multimedia systems. The research work during
every semester includes research in a certain subject area, chosen by the students.
The course finishes with the development of a master thesis, which goes on during the whole study
period.
