Abstract:
The teaching of foreign languages has the objective to give knowledge to the students about the main grammar
patterns and lexical structures. The communicative- functional method has the aim to develop speaking skills
through mastering the lexico-grammatical minimum; it also has the aim to develop skills for using specialist
literature in the foreign language. The course focuses on the professional interests and realization of the students.
Knowledge of the relevant foreign language, obtained in secondary school, is a course prerequisite.
Course content:
Greetings and introductions - asking for information; conversations on personal topics; describing houses and
flats; life history; likes and dislikes; daily routines; announcements and messages (formal and informal); making
suggestions and plans. The grammar material is connected with the lexical topics and situations.
Teaching and assessment:
The aim of the teaching methods is to provide the optimal amount of knowledge necessary for communication in a
real situation. Key elements are the motivation factors. Teaching is based on work done in class as well as selfstudy
using practical and situational exercises.
Abstract:
The course familiarises the students with the main topics in the field of engineering, connected with the
investigation of mechanisms, machines and machine elements. It is designated to give an overview of the
machine sciences in order to enable professional dialogue and cooperation in multifunctional teams consisting of
mechanical and electronics engineers. Course prerequisites include knowledge of Mathematics, Physics,
Materials Science and Technical Documentation. The knowledge acquired on this course is in turn a prerequisite
for the courses in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Measurements, Technical Safety, etc.
Course content:
Structure, classification analysis and synthesis of mechanisms. Evolved cogged gearing. Force analysis and
mechanical efficiency. Dynamics and equilibrium of mechanisms. Strength of machine elements. Connections.
Elements of rotational motion. Mechanical gears.
Teaching and assessment:
The lectures give a logical presentation of the material supported by examples and models of moving mechanisms
and machine elements, demonstrated by an OHP. The lecture topics are assimilated better at the laboratory
sessions by using a series of kinematical models, models of real mechanisms and machine elements, and stands
for experimental investigations. The current preparation of students is controlled at the labs through tests and test
problems. Student evaluation finishes with a continuous assessment.
