Abstract:<br />

The first part of the course aims at giving knowledge about the computer as a technical tool and the software<br />

products which make it a priceless assistant to specialists in all fields. The second part is an introduction to<br />

programming and aims at giving students skills to develop algorithms and computer programmes with intermediate<br />

level of difficulty. Significant attention is paid to algorithm development. The C++ programming language is used<br />

as a tool, which is widely spread and also used in later courses.<br />

Course content:<br />

A brief history of computers. Classification. CPU, main memory. Input/Output devices. Secondary storage.<br />

Computer networks. Operating systems. Word-processing, Spreadsheets and Databases. Algorithms. Introduction<br />

to Pascal. General structure of a program. Operations. Built-in functions. Expressions. Branches. Repetitions.<br />

Arrays. Pointers.<br />

Teaching and assessment:<br />

The lectures are 2 hours a week. The workshops take place in computer labs and the students work on the above<br />

topics under the lecturer’s supervision. At the end of each stage the practical skills of the students are tested.<br />

At the end of the semester students’ knowledge on the first part of the course is examined using a computer test of<br />

50 questions. Students also do a test on the second part of the lecture material.<br />

The final grade is based on the test mark, the continuous assessment at the workshops, the mark of the second<br />

test and the evaluation of the course work.<br />

Abstract:<br />

The course objective is for the students to receive knowledge and skills, needed to work as an electrical engineer.<br />

Course pre-requisites includes knowledge, obtained from high school and the course outcome leads to other<br />

electrical courses, studied in the Bachelor degree program.<br />

Course content:<br />

Electricity - main concepts and quantities. Transfer and transformation of electrical energy. Electrical equipment<br />

and installation. Electric materials. Electrical machines. Electrical Drive and Supply of Aggregates. Electrical<br />

Safety.<br />

Teaching and assessment:<br />

The lecture topics are assimilated better by using a slide projector.<br />

The laboratory equipment allows every student to get acquainted with the electrical equipment independently. Oral<br />

examining is done during the lectures and workshops. The preliminary exam is written and oral.<br />
